… to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy

“Those who declared us dead will see the resurrection of the image of God in the humanity of the African woman.”
We must learn to see the oppressed as the transfiguration of Christ. No longer can we view the oppressed as “dead,” but as living, active and powerful models of transformation. From victims into survivors, and oppression into liberation, pain into hope, desperation into redemption—in witnessing these stories of transformation, we begin to believe in the possibility of hope for ourselves.
God, may I accept the invitation to love and to be transformed by that love. Amen.
